Native Americans and Alaska Natives are known to have significantly increased rates of substance abuse and alcohol and drug addiction than other ethnicities, an an issue which should be resolved for these people to endure. Although the causes may vary from individual to person, most of the reasons for the higher rates of alcohol and drug abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives related to their culture. First of all, Native American and Alaska Native youth appear to have some of the highest rates of alcohol and drug abuse in the country. The most evident barriers to treating Native Americans and Alaska Natives for substance abuse are cultural ones and language. For this reason it is important that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Jamestown receive rehab treatment in a drug rehab center that is culturally acceptable, but most importantly in a drug rehab program that considers the need to provide alcohol and drug rehab in their language.
